Only Independent: Alt-Rock Royalty Eskimo Joe Return!
New Music Friday! Here's five of the latest + greatest releases from independent artists this week, let's go!
florian - L.O.B.A
L.O.B.A = LEAVE OUR BODIES ALONE!
In the pop-litical track, Florian confronts the all too familiar commentary that surrounds women's bodies.
"At face value it’s giving early 00s sexy, fierce energy but below the surface it’s confronting something I feel very strongly about and something I know all of my female friends relate to. It’s taken me a long time to have the confidence that I do now with my body to realise that what men think or say about my body is absolutely none of their business and I shouldn’t have to worry about a man or anyone really, having an opinion or making decisions about it," said Florian.
Selfish Sons - Backseat Drive
Off the back of touring with the Jonas Brothers, + ahead of their upcoming shows with Lil Wayne - the east coast indie-rockers Selfish Sons are back with their latest alt anthem. Boasting euphoric guitar tones, charismatic vocals and infectious low-fi synth hooks and you cant quite shake, this effortlessly enigmatic track kicks off 2024 in a huge way for the band.
Eskimo Joe - The First Time
The iconic Australian alternative rockers, Eskimo Joe are back with a healthy dose of nostalgia. 'The First Time' captures that bittersweet feeling of the past, looking back through rose-coloured glasses, forgetting the heartache & sleepless nights that came with it and often in the middle of the night, in the loneliest moments, you look back & take comfort in those memories.
Semiire - DECISIONS
Nigerian-born, Austrian raised, and now Australian based afro-beat artist Semiire returns with his second single DECISIONS.
DECISIONS delves into the complexity of making a tough choice between letting someone go or inviting them back into your life. It's a heartfelt expression of laying out all the reasons for them to return, despite knowing that things weren't perfect before. It's about realizing that despite imperfections, this person is the one you truly belong with, and urging them to stop resisting because deep down, they know it too. The song captures the emotional turbulence of being caught in the limbo between a temporary break and a complete breakup, where making a decision feels agonizingly difficult.
